About Me
I am currently a Senior UX researcher at Twitch working with the best research team you can ask for! In my current role, I am helping shape new experiences for viewers and helping them connect to the creators they will love.
Previously, I was a Lead Research Strategist at Electronic Arts. In that role, most of my research focused on wide-reaching, high-impact formative and foundational research questions that spanned all EA Sport franchises. I worked on multiple titles, like FIFA, Skate, [super secret project], VR research for Star Wars: Squadrons (best VR game of the year!) and many others.
Before EA, I was working with the Google Daydream research team, helping make great experiences with the Google Daydream VR headset.
I have also worked (and still do from time to time) as a Human Factors expert witness, going to court to help teach judges and juries about visual attention, memory and user error. I am particularly proud of my work as a Human Factors expert because I have literally helped change lives doing that work
Dan Odell
Principal Human Factors and Ergonomics Specialist, Amazon
Matt worked with me on the Google Daydream View. He did a great job, was fun to work with, and I'd work with him again in a heartbeat.
John Gaspar
Sr. UX researcher, Google
Matt is one of the most clever and versatile researchers I've ever worked with. From his academic work to his UX roles, I'm repeatedly impressed by his thoughtful insights, his willingness to learn and apply new approaches to his work, and the clarity with which he can explain complex concepts.
Surabhi Mathur
Sr. UX researcher, Course Hero
Matt is not only an accomplished, creative, and passionate researcher but also a great mentor who fuels innovation. Would highly recommend working with him.
My research style
I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to methods. Many a weekend has been wasted away with me in textbooks, YouTube or R forums learning new methods to use in my research
With all of that, I tend to use mixed methods in my day-to-day, combining qualitative methods such as Semi-structured and in-depth interviews, with more quantitative approaches, such as Maxdiff, or cluster analyses.
